Burma and Tibet
by ali shahanshah on Oct 17, 2007 09:44 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

Burma is a neighbouring country whom we cannot annoy at the cost of western influence. The Burmese are comfortable with the Chinese as they awarded them the gas exploration rights. In Burma we have more people of Indian origin who are engaged in various trades.Despite this fact we Have not been able to bring about a friendly economic balance with country which China has!
Tibet is Paradise Lost!! and Paradise gained in India and other parts of the world. As of today Tibetans are moore comforatble living as refugees than living in Tibet! The clamouring and protests are fully justified but are like acceptance with a protest!Francois Gautier writes therefore he exists, everyone has to make a living! It will be prudent if Francois gautier visits both the regions and gets first hand reports rather than report on hearsay and filed stories. He will earn the respect of bothe the Burmese and the Sino- Tibetan people.

We have peculiar foreign policy. Almost all our neighbours are unhappy with us. China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Tibet, Burma, and now new regime of Nepal.

On the other hand China has excellent relationship with all these countries and making effort to improve ties with India.

There is a need to review our foreign policy and see to it that in next one or two decades we have more friendly neighbours. This is a must if we have to become a major global player.

Kudos Aftab
I can't agree more with you. I'm a common man with no background on iternational relations or foriegn policy. However since long i myself have been noticing he the same about India's not so friendly relations with any of its neighbors. We do not slect the best of available brains in our foriegn office (or for any of the other offices). Indian intelligence is active in gathering information on opposition parties and their leaders.

Whether we agree or NOT, truth/reality is a truth/reality. India's relationship with it's neighbours are going bad to worse every year bcoz of the ministers/officials handling the foreign affairs. Ministers keep those officials who will just node their head whatever Minister says. We lost our ex-primeminister Rajiv Gandhi bcoz of the politicians and officials only; some stupid officials/ministers (who knew NOTHING about Srilankan problems) were entered/involved in the Srilankan problem, created all the mess and thereby triggered the 1991/05/21 incident. To become a Minister in India, we dont need to have any intelligence, just to know how to play politics. So, let's pay the penalty in the International stage.
