Sonia is an elected representative of Rae Bareily constituency. Everytime she has won by record margin. On top of it she is the president of UPA, the coalition that rules the country. So, she has been elected twice - by the people of Rae Barely and by the parliamentary members of UPA.

How is that related to Gandhi ? unless, sonia is using that name from her father-in law Feroze gandhi's last name...oh btw, Feroze was the biggest loser in the 60's and both Indira and Nehru were so relieved at Feroze's death

American president candidated don't go the easy way in American democracy like Ganddis in Indian version of democracy.They answer people,participate in live debates,people do consider their persona and their track record,not how many persons do padapjua for a person each morning.This is ridiculous.

They have political rallies in India ... it's a different culture ... people are hered to political rallies to muster support ... distributed food and clothes to get them there ... people come, show support, and then they vote

Gandhi was Feroz's last name ... wasn't he known as Feroz Gandhi? Then Indira acquired that name from her husband ... Rajiv and Sanjay got the name Gandhi ... Sonia and Maneka got the name Gandhi.
Sonia and Maneka both have a last name of Gandhi ... one leads Congress ... the other woman is perhaps a BJP MP .. honestly, I don't know what she is ... just know she is an avid environmentalist.

Wow! I don't question anyone's last name.It could be Mohammed either.I don't care.There was no need for Feroze to change his last name for this family who mistreated him soon enough.So much to show who those family memmbers really were.
And Nehru,the enchanter of Lady Mount Batton,a married woman!!!! Don't talk about him.And ord Mountbatton was India's best friend amonng British and Nehru was having an affair! Shame on him and his breed!Mountbatton's daughter only attested to this fact a few weeks ago in her book.

Nothing ... just that Gandhiji asked Feroz to take on his name if it would make Nehru feel better about the reltionship. The guy took it.
Now, some 60 years later you question, why it was done ... it was definitely not done thinking that in 60 years Gandhi would be an expensive brand with worldwide recognition.
