As per Hinduism or for that matter any religion have these predictions. The advantage of a prediction is the predictor does not lose any thing even the prediction goes wrong. I am 61 and when I was a child I read a story. Preganant wife of an astrologer asked what child she begets. The astrologer raised his hands and said he cannot say. Then she ridiculed him and told that when he is predicting to every one approaching for one thing or other how is that he cannot predict in his personal case. The astrologer told that he predicts and keeps a dated note writing exactly opposite what he has predicted. If the prediction is right he gets some more presents. If it goes wrong they come and question immediately he counters them with his note and say they might have forgotten.
