just pick up the gita, vedas etc..and also look at the critiques of hinduism or rather brahminism that I posted...that shd give u a well rounded perspective...not everything was great in hinduism and not everything is great now..hinduism needs a sea-change if it is to survive..but sadly I see little hope for it with the rise of fundamentalist orgs like RSS, VHP etc

well as i said in the earlier post, the texts you mentioned are the compilations of various schools of thought. And also I repeat, there is nothing like a comprehensive hinduism. Atleast in the context of a comparison not for blasphemy, people belonging to this faith(as it was understood by other faiths) never followed a human preaching alone. They were given choice as to what they think religion should be. And if it is brahminism, every institution is subjected to abuse on the planet. Christiantiy was used for political advantages in Europe. Jewish sentiments are used in stock markets. Places of worship are controlled by mortals who habe committed incest in the name of religion or have assocaited with derogated mortals. So a criticism of any institution i believe, will not give us an insight into it's true purpose.

I didn't consider Hinduism as a religion at all. Hinduism as a religion came into existence when only the other challenging faiths came into it's contact. Imagine you have a house in a remote forest. You will not bother how richly it's decorated. there is no status struggle. When someone builds a house in you vicinity, then the real struggle for comparison starts. That's what happened with the social or religious practices of Indian subcontinent. We atleast can accept christianity came into existence around 2000 years ago and islam 1300 years ago. Why wasn't any such religion born in India?
