Face-Saving
by Lalatendu Deo on Oct 04, 2007 10:58 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

It is a fact that BJP wishes to have the date of election to be delayed to about March next year or so. That is quite possible as the Congress also wishes to have the skirmish between JD(S) and BJP be stretched a little bit more. The Congress would be able to manage delaying the election to early next year if it chose so.

But the JD(S) wishes to cash on the recent success it got from the recent local government election. And Deve Gowda knows very well that even if Kumaraswamy requests the Governor for and early election, it is very possible that the request would not be honoured. And that is why, JD(S) has not yet gone in that direction.

BJP leaders know very well that by not doing anything, Congress and JD(S) are gaining points on its own behest. Any small miscalculation would make the party to lose Karnataka. And the Best option for them now is to persuade Deve Gowda of some concessions from his high stand. It is also a fact that conceding the CM's Post, BJP would be risking tarnishing its own image just before the General Election, and this might result in losing the power at the centre itself.

The foremost in the mind of BJP leaders is to convince JD(S) for some face-saving formula that might be acceptable.

I don't think I completely agree with you. Reason is In karanataka Local election does not really influence Assembley and General election. Also JDS has created more enimies in north of the state. And BJP has big base noth of the state. I would no one will gain much in by-electins.

Let us hope that Karnataka people will teach a lesson to Deve Gowda and Family. How long public can allow them to loot the state.
