How funny .. india wants to be a world power, economic power , wants a place in the security council etc..... but has to depend upon other nations for decent weapons. how can we be independent without having an indegenous producer of weapons. its better to be late than never. india is the only important & developing country which has to depend upon others for its needs.Noboday even seems to be ashamed when they say we have paid such a huge sum for importing arms wilson thomas

Ashish, How many people per sq.km. are living in USA and India resp. ? Which year USA and India got independence from foreign rule ? For how many years USA and India were ruled/looted by foreigners ? How many wars have been fought on US and Indian soils ? How many ethnic groups are indegenes of USA and India ? How many globally recognised languages are spoken in USA and India ? Answers will draw a clear picture that neither we are comparable nor we are competing with USA, and why should we ? We started from somewhere -0 in 1947 and got a parting gift as partition and got land-locked with enemies all around us.We braved partition known as biggest human tragedy of 20th century. We survived sinister designs of enemies and dangerous games of cold war.We maintained our balance between two rival super powers without any loss or submission.Dozens of countries either broke away or ceased to exist or became unofficial US colonies/dependents after break up of Soviet Union,we survived and remained almost unaffected. in1974 we were nuclear capable which served as a deterent to China. Foreign, home and defence policies of whole of third world plus many other countries are dictated from Washington and London, not ours. Look at our immediate neighbors in east, west and south with small populations and few ethnic groups and compare to ourselves. If not much,at least we are most respectable and sought after people among third world in the world. We are just 60,fully on track.

buddy, it is not about being a superpower. It is about standing in the competitive environment when we have the most dangerous neighbours like China, Pakistan and Afganistan. It is about the security of the nation.
