1984 Riots
by Surender Sharma on Nov 29, 2007 05:56 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

For how long the ordinary people of India will keep dreaming about punishing the culprits of 1984 riots. Nothing is going to happen. In 1984, I was just 10 years old and I still remember that our immediate neighbours who were sikhs, were dragged out by the same people who were living in the same colony for years and burned alive right in front of our eyes. The sikh family never did anything wrong to anyone but still their friends and local people to whom they trusted for years killed them. Many people who were involved in riots are now dead but I will never forgot how a happy family of our neighbours lost everything in matter of hours. Stones were pelted for hours and our house also got damaged during this process. The rich sikh family lost everything and their small kids (2 boys and girl) with mother left to struggle in. I never heard from them after that. I must feel that those who were involved with all this should be brought to justice. Regardless of his/ her political status.

I appreciate your views, Mr. Sharma.

Its high time we grow as a society. For that we have to come face to face with truth and reality. Sikhs and Hindus have mixed families in Punjab and elsewhere. We must clean up the rut these politicians create and then go scot free. Why our nation does not have the sense of justice. Let's have justice. Justice must prevail, whether its Hindu or Sikh or Muslim.

I appreciate your coming out with concern.
