Like in personal lives, the attitude and priorities count for the countries.
Amongst Islamic countries, UAE shines as they change with times, though follow customs followed for many years. They are able to adapt. Countries like Pakistan, are influenced by people who think they are Gods, and cannot tolerate any deviation from their self righteosness. They feel theirs is the right way and they are are carried way to such an extent that they think they have direct access to Allah.
Countries that succeed have no baggages to carry and they have strict rule of law & discipline. Even China, once steeped in ideology, have understood that there is no substitute for hard work. They have gone around cooperating with everybody - success of soft power.
Pakistan cannot learn its lessons, as they are mired in feudalism, religious intolerance and human lives have no value. I felt Diwali came early for them, except that they were playing with human lives. I just cannot understand a life - get up pray, have breakfast, go about killing all & sundry. They not only make their life meaningless but heap misery on others. What a contrast to their chums across the border China, which relies in relentless discipline. They have really learned their lessons of chaos from cultural revolutuion.
All these have meaning for us, as we also can go downhill if we play up democracy without limits. Ultimately, we all ahould have positive focus and rule of law as the basics.

You summerise very nice.. unless people leave the religion at home, people cannot progress, country can only represent the people who live there. We have to wonder that these pakistanis share our blood, culture, tradition & many other things and yet see what they have become.
