$50 a month? Extremely kind of the "desolate couple" to be give that to the woman who has been willing to give birth to their child! I am floored by their kindness and thoughtfulness. That is the kind of money they spend for one two rounds of beer. The same for the poor woman who is putting her life at possible risk to bring them happiness? Great. With all due respect to Dr Patel, I got to say that this is pure exploitation. If thhis were to be done in Europe or the US they'd end up paying a major part of their savings as compensation for this woman. Of course India is cheap and Indians are way too innocent and outrageously polite when it comes to dealing with the fair skinned. I feel sorry for this woman. How can Dr Patel let this happen? Gosh :-(

1lac rupees for the poorest is a lot. They can feed their family for a year easily. But surely they can charge more and they should. It is also about finding a healthy women. And it is about helping another couple by blessing them with something wonderful and their big thanks is worth many millions. So i guess it is not a business where one can become a millionaire by becoming a surrogate mother.

Everything precious is costly and every precious thing become common one day. see Mobiles, TV etc. We actually have to money wise contribute to science and technology to make it affordable, rather than commenting it

The child seekers are being charged fair amount (I wont say heavy, but there's no price for a child too), but what the surrogate mother is getting is nothing!!!

I think the surrogate mother gets to keep half the amount. The doctor charges about a fifth and the rest are medical expenses.

I am a US women who actually went to Dr Patel, and it is not $50 dollars, it is $50 a month for room and bored and for themselves and then it is $4000-$6000 at the end. A lot of Us couples cannot afford to get IVF or surrogacy in the states, insurance does not cover these procedures. The cost over here is $30,000 to $50,000 and that is because of all of the legal fees and lawers fees and the high cost of Medical fees and medication. Over here it cost $3000 just for the shots for fertility, over there the cost of medicine only is $500 so right there we pay 4 times as much. Maybe it costs so much for us because of our government and how greedy people are with suing doctors for malpractice and they then charge more for services to pay their insurance premiums. Don't blame the infertile women for wanting to try the only solution they have heard can help their problem. Do you think that a rich person in Us would dare fly to India to have such a thing done to them in the first place. Believe me they would not.

Of course, this is pureexploitation. The charges should have been at least $1000 per month and $10,000 at the time of delivery of the child.
