Young boys killed, go missing mother at wits end By Peerzada Shabir SRINAGAR, May 28: Sanjay a cobbler from Rajasthan was disappointed as he entered the Sher-e-Kashmir Park, where a silent protest was being staged by the people whose loved ones have disappeared in custody. The protest was organized by coalition of civil society (CCS) "What all this is going on? Why they have tied the white bands on their heads? What is written on these bands?" This was a volley of questions he posed to this reporter, while I was covering the protest. There was no chance for me to explain him the situation. I along with him sat down and started a conversation with Jana Bagum 50, from Diver Lolab in frontier district of Kupwara. Her two sons were killed and one has disappeared while in custody. Her husband could not bear the tragedy and died of heart attack. Jana is a Gujjar woman, speaking Urdu fluently and she started to narrate the tragedy as: Her two sons, Baktiyar Ahmad War 19, student of Dar-ul-aloom Bilalya Srinagar, and Latief Ahmad War 22, a labourer were killed and her third son Muhammad Sharief War,25, a labourer by profession vanished in thin air. The two slain sons according to Jana were killed in fake encounter by SOG and Border Security Force. They according to Jana were picked by SOG and BSF based in Kupwara in 1998 while they were on way to Srinagar.
