Good sense prevailed on Mayawati

Mayawati must be congratulated for taking a bold step in including Brahmins(who were often criticised unfairly) in her pursuit for power. The Brahmin bashing had been a fashion for almost all politicians and political parties because they knew that Brahmins will not protest.
Each generation had its own special problems. So blaming brahmins "for 100 years of oppression" or "1000 years of oppression" or "5000 years of oppression" had been a fashion for many people. You can state any number and get away with it.
In free India any body can opt for Sanskrit, Astrology etc. But how many people who shout on roof tops that Brahmins denied opportunities for the pursuit of knowledge for 1000s of years have oped for it? Not many because they dont want to learn those subjects instead they will learn some thing which would provide them livelihood. That is what probably each generation did. But blaming brahmins will erase every wasted opportunity for them.
