Azad deserves a pat
by Ravikant Bhat on Mar 27, 2007 10:42 PM   Permalink

Ghulam Nabi Azad has remained firm against troop withdrawal. It really surprises me. He has chosen to take a stand that is against the one taken by his party's high command. While the Congress' assurance on troop withdrawal was nothing but yet another instance of playing the minority card and populism, Azad's anti troop-withdrawal stance should be appreciated...

PDP has been notoriously asking for autonomy since it gained power in the state of J&K. Inspite of the hefty expenditures that the central government incurs on the state for development projects, PDP's demand somewhere smacks of a separatist agenda and playing into the hands of separatist groups to ultimately demand a separate nation state of J&K.

The security situation in J&K is certainly not that of pre-1989 level and lives are still lost daily. With the successful extermination of Hindus from the valley already happening, withdrawal of troops will further result in lessened security and harassment of Hindus, Sikhs in Jammu region.

Congress perhaps can afford to make the Kashmiri Hindus to live in refugee camps. After all, they are not a political group and their votes don't count in the state where they can cast their votes...

On the back of all this development, the JK CM's firm stance remains a faint glimmer of hope for the Hindus who are still leftover in J&K...
