All folks who rejoice at the word 'Economic reform', please step back and think for a second -- Whose Land? Whose Development???.
Why should poor farmers of Singur and Nandigram subsidize a cheap car for the upper middle class, who give a damn about these farmers?
Please know that it is not easy for farmers to pack their bags and leave to a different city[ for them it is an alien land as much as Mars means to you & me] and make a living there. They have been in that land all their life and all they know is Agriculture.
Now, you want these poor brethern of yours to go to a cosmo, sweat it out on manual labour for 14 hours a day for peanuts and live less then hand-to-mouth existence while you flaunt on your "new" small Tata car? cool, huh? Is this your love for your compatriots?
Any compensation you give will not sustain their livelihood. Mind you, this farmer doesn't know to invest in Mutual funds to reap benifits or invest in stocks. But it is his problem, why do we Care?
If you all believe Indian agriculture is in big crisis and we have to do something, please join "Youth for Farmers" in Orkut and let's work together.

LOL - Good joke Samik. You must be a "REAL" economist. Are you doing justice by calling farmers as smart economist, who knows what is better? Who gave you the right to decide on their behalf sir? Are you in Singur and know the real struglle, before you point finger at others???
Isn't it a simple Logic? When there is protest, even after your Buddha baba, tried to control & oppress everything, clearly shows that fight is carried out by poor farmers???
You call me Commie when you are blindly supporting your Marxists Government? Funny Dude.
Also, you want employment oppurtunity developed in a land which is prosperous and cultivates thrice an year? Why not in a Barren land, you WB kinda economist? Why Mr. Tata is hell-bent on Singur? Can you explian? Also, can you answer why 997 acres of land for lesser output cars while Hondo in US makes twice the output for 1/3 land?
Isn't it bloody selfish of yours to think that you need employment while farmers can take a hike? Industrialization in place of Agriculture will not take India to development, only to destruction.
Coming to employment, you have any idea how many jobs it will create? Have you seen prior examples on these industries??? Also, Tata has only accepted around 50 youths in training now and none have them have been guarenteed jobs yet.
Well, you are after all doing loyalty to your corporate companies and so commie-turned-capi Govt.

Seems you have the issues confused. The reason why the car factory is important is because it would lead to employment and would help develop the industry in West Bengal. Whether the car produces a 1Lakh car or a 25Lakh car is not important - what is important is that many people will find employment in the factory.
Your assumption that the farmers are simpletons doesnt do them justice. The farmers are smart - they know which side of the bread is buttered - unlike armchair wild eyed commies like you. No wonder a majority of them have given up their land - taken the money - and enrolled for training and jobs.
The trouble at Singur is carried out by a minority of the farmers - and most importantly by politicians like Mamata. She has been joined by well-heeled commies living in Calcutta - often in upmarket apartments. Then there are people like Medha Patkar who travel 1000s of miles to create trouble.
Let us not be misled - the trouble and protest are planned and carried out by people who have not lived in Singur ( or for that matter any village) - neither do they ever plan to live in rural areas.
