Rain water harvesting
by Miharika on Jun 30, 2007 10:02 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

RWH must be made compulsory for all buildings, grounds etc and suitable tax breaks must be given to manufacturers of such RWH equipment so that it becomes affordable to all. This will capture a lot of the abundant rain water, thus alleviating the flooding to some extent, and also making use of the rain water so collected for other uses such as raising the ground water levels, storage, car washing, flushing etc. The authorities responsible for various infrastructure debris left uncleared before the monsoons should be fined and also held criminally liable.

Good,Positive Ideas Miharika. Also taxing should discourage people migrating to big Metros. And above all those officials who regularise Illegal Structures should be sacked and Parties like the Congress and Actors like Shobana Azmi who shed crocodile tears for Slum dwellers for cheap Publicity and Votebank Politics should be Electorally thrown out of Mumbai for ever.

It is true that our dwelling places are much compacted with people, bounded by concrete walls. Along with population control, immigration control, one most important thing to be done is consumption control. Always try to scale your sorroundings with natural habitat, not with USA, Saudi or England. We have become so obcessed with material development that we have forgotten to save nature gifted pure air, potable water and unadulterated healthy food. Instead to achieve undesirable artificial development we are keeping this biological systems in non-compatible concrete and plastic sorroundings. To get basic elements of life (air, water & food), we should inculcate to reestablish multi-tier hetero vegetation both on farm lands and urban sorroundings. We should stop hated towards nature and undesirable affinity towards arrogantly created artificial habitats. All wise people should start allocating at least 75% of our owned land under multi-tier vegetation and 25% only and hardly under concrete slabs or pavings. This will allow soil to absorb, store and supply water incessantly.
