CLEAN UP - Alwyn M. D'Sa
by ALWYN MICHAEL DSA on Jun 30, 2007 03:02 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

The rains have yet again paralysed Mumbai city. Besides having dedicated and honest politicians we need responsible citizens. Or else how do you justify the Indian civic sense of "Keep your house clean and shove the dirt at the neighbours" Our rich and middle class people have travelled throughout the world and seen for themselves how cities are maintained. They know how to refrain from being a dirty Indian when they are globetrotting but when they come back to the motherland they become the same dirty Indians. The only way to improve us is for the government to heavily penalise people who lack civic sense and who are irresponsible citizens in every other way. Come on government departments this is a new way for you to earn revenue and also to line the pockets of the authorities.

Hey Alwyn bud, we employ a
Civic corporation to maintain and upkeep the city! Lets get work done from them first! Most of them are busy trying to make money under the table rather than work! After slogging your balls off to make two ends meet you think you are in a mood to get down with a broom to clean your housing society or the city? Be practical. There are people designated to do each activity in Society and they better do it!

Very true. While citizens should lend a hand in improving civic services, what do our civic fathers do - they undertake million dollar visits to the best tourist spots in the world, Las Vegas, Paris, Bangkok and Hongkong, to "study" civic amenities and maintenance of civic infrastructure and end up improving their own financial and physical infrastructure. Nothing ever gets done for the common man. What has happened to the famous plan to clean up the Mithi river and remove the blockages resulting in yearly floods? No one will remember this, but our politicians and bureaucrats and contractors will grow fatter out of funds meant for the civic welfare. The thing is our politicians and civic leaders do not aim to become role models for the citizen, instead they set a bad example in corrucption, nepotism and double-dealing to cheat the common man out of his right to better amenities! When will the common man rise against such human vampires?

I give you the option. Ask somebody to prepare a cup of hot kaaapi and sit on your favorite armchair and enjoy the kaapi and tv. From time to time luk outside your window and savour the rain.
This country is led by people with mediocre intelligence and animal quality which is nothing but a result of 60 years of reservation. If you wish to make this country a better India and this city too, you know now what to do!
