If the Nimitz is so close to the Chennai port they could map the underwater region using their sonars. In the event of a later conflict this will allow their submarines to find underground hiding places and holes and know exactly how to get deep into the port without avoiding our sonars. Chennai port is one of the most important commercial shipping areas. I dont know if I am right or wrong on this but I hope our Navy thought about this. If we think the Americans are not doing the mapping at this moment on their ship then we have to be really stupid. The only question is how will it be put to9 use.

mapping the underwater depths has and is always done by the admiralty ! any navy has access to maritime charts that clearly mention all data , so the USS nimitz shall not have to try that out, buying an admiralty chart shall be cheaper !! shripad sathe

nonsense, if americans have caacty to do it from space without a personal visit. see civilian technology like google earth, quickbird, ikonos satellites pictures & mapping. us military satellites are 10 times better that civilian ones.

America has the technology to do the under water mapping from the space. It will be naive to think that they have not done the mapping yet.

yeah right, underwater mapping can be done from space. Sattelites cant be used for military mapping. A couple of years ago two chinese fishing ships were caught in the bay of bengal with sonar equipment. The ships were confiscated and the Chinese deliberately tried to deny it was their ship. Are you saying everybody else other than the Americans are stupid to use ships to map the enemy areas. We should have limited all american visits to Goa because thats where all their ships have been going in the past. It is not such a critical Commercial/Military port like Chennai, Cochin, Vizag, Bombay etc. I think next time we are going to let an american ship right into our naval ship building docks in Cochin, Mazagaon,Vizag etc.. Open up everything to the whole world so they can fire a rocket right between our buttocks.

You don't equate chinese technology with American technology. China is doing great - but still light years behind in weapons and space technology.
