Muslims are often held responsible for the terrorist attacks being carried out around the world. There seems to be a serious misunderstanding about the concept of Jihad. If one studies Islam objectively without any pre-judgements, he will soon realize Jihad is only a form of self defense. In 1921 Keralite Muslims practiced Jihad against British rule. I can say for sure that all the wars waged in the early periods of the Islam were only for this reason. Meccans were not at all tolerate with the Islam and they wanted to nip it in the bud. So there was no alternative before Muslims but to defend. In modern age you can find many examples for this self defence in Occupied Palestine, Iraq, Afganistan, to name a few. Amidst the continuing targeting of this worldly faith, the good is that more and more people are coming forward to learn what Islam really is and what it stands for, making it the fastest growing religion in the world today. In western societies the literatures talking about the true Islamic faith are being sold like hot bread. The word Islam itself means Salam or peace. The self defence in many cases paved the way for enduring peace. When it comes to Indian Muslims, there is always doubt about their patriotism. In many cases they are more patriot than followers of all other religions. I am talking about the early periods of Islam. Off course, there can be some mistakes committed by some of its followers. But it is unfair to generalize. Even during the period of Muslim rule of Spain and other parts of Europe no body was forced to convert to Islam. Rather, Islam taught them what civilization is when most of the Europe was living in its dark ages. It is widely accepted fact among the historians that during the Muslim rule of Spain, it reached to the peak of its prosperity. Please feel free to learn about Islam without any pre-judgements and dont judge on its faith only by the deeds of some of its followers. It has been a regular Islamic practice to break shrines of other religions and convert those into mosques. Whether it is in India(Sri Ram Janambhoomi, Krishna Janambhoomi, Vishwanath temple in Varanasi are just tip of the iceberg). World wide, whether in Greece, Cypress, Turkey, you name the country and you can see examples of Islamic intolerance of other religions. In Kashmir, MOST of the Hindu temples were destroyed and forcibly converted. What is known as Shahi Hamdaan in Srinagar(Kashmir) was a famous Kali temple.Till 1990, Hindus could be seen worshiping a small piece of outer wall of the Shahi Hamdaan complex.People talk of destruction of so called Babri Masjid. Why are people silent on the wholesale destruction of hindu shrines/ temples in Kashmir, even since Independence.More so, after 1990.
yes at that time islamic world was more advanced than europe, but the violent method of jihad did not go down well with the europeans thats why the launched crusades.
anyway its time now to reform islam just like jews have removed all the violent as aspects of judiasm.
