What's With The Media!
by Vishit Kumar on Jun 22, 2007 10:16 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

I understand NASA's space expeditions and all the other aspects of it regarding the benefits to mankind as a whole. But I can't believe how obsessed our media has become for Sunita Williams. It seems the question is not about that space shuttle but about the person of "Indian-Origin"! And unlike Ms.Kalpana Chawla, this person is not even remotely connected to India. So what's with all these 'havans' and 'pujas'? Ridiculous is the word! Everyday, day in day out, some of our bravest officers of the Indian Air-Force fly out their Mig-21's (lot of us call them the "Flying Coffins"). Why doesn't anybody pray for their safe landing and perform 'Havans' etc.? Having a role-model is fine, it doesn't need to be based on a nationality but going completely bonkers on somebody just on the basis of origin is utter nonsense-crap! It's like a fashion thesedays, our media is propogating role models as people who have left this country or for that matter are not even connected to this land! Is this the way the Media wants to inspire our youth?

People are doing Havans so that Sunita return safely and bring the correct locations of Stars. This will help millions of our astrolgers in predicting the future of our country :-)

Nice one Mr.Verma! This gets to show that if all of us actually stick to the debate without getting into each other's religion, caste etc., this message board is great way of interacting!

Brilliantly said Vishit. Couldn't agree more with you. It seems like the easiest way to get on TV these days is to perform "havans" for meaningless and nonsensical things. Kids talking about their "Sunita Didi". Were they even aware of her existence earlier? It's just sad.

Why the hell is it sad? On one side you all preach that Kalam will be uplifting because of his image to soo.o many people and why can't people like Sunita/Kalpana be the same too. If you dont like the news dont read it and yes dont comment on it like this.

Well, Mr. Kaka, it's sad because this has become a media issue. It's become an easy way for people to get on TV by holding marches and demonstrations and havans and what not, for their beloved Sunita "Didi". They really don't care about Sunita Williams. She will be forgotten in a few days, like most "media babies".

I am totally in agreement with Mr. Vishit Kumar. I dont know what the hell Sunita Williams do to this country that soo much air time is being wasted on here when our country itself is bedevilled with problems affecting the life's of millions.
