Nawaz Sharif was an ally of religious party and had the strictest form of Shariat Bill passed by the partliament which would have made Pakistan into a totally theocratic state ( not that it is not Islamic but not that bad ). That would have been the end of democracy in Pakistan. Mushy's taking over of Pakistan kept the religious parties quite for a while and now he fighting a full scale battle with them - a fight to finish. On side is he and his Sindhi friend Benazir and a few generals - and the other side is the Punjabi-Pushtoon Islamic warriors led by Nazwaz Sharif.
