I think Sanjay deserves the judgement. Many specially the english media and his fretanity may feels otherwise. But he was an adult and possessing an assult rifle was illgal what ever the reason. (Protect his family during the riots) Is he jocking and takes the public for fools. He should take responcibility for his action and if he is a true Indian accept this judgement as a slap on the wrist. Otherwise he could have been tied to the bomb blast itself. And the english media can stop projecting him as a victim. Its sick. Would the same people have shown the concern and outrage if an ordinary have done the same.

sg sg, why do you think his reason of Protecting his family is a joke? His family had received threats during the time and it is well known fact.

Mr Sandeep, So? What if his family had received threats? Does that justify him illegally acquiring arms? There R other Legal recourse available. He could even have applied for licence to acquire, carry and use arms (that is if he really felt a need to bearmed.)He could have tried for police protection (at least that is all what a comon lawabiding citizen in India can do). Nothing certainly justifies acquiring illegal arms ... Dont you think so?

Mr bungbumi, I agree, receiving threats to family does not justify him illegally aquiring arms. I am not saying he should be condoned. All I am saying is that scenario at that time was extremely tense and volatile and a lot of physically capable folks had collected knifes, sticks etc even when they had no specific threats. Now consider a person who has been threatened mutliple times. What does he do? Apply for a license and wait(months) for approval? Believe me, I have seen mobs running amok and I do not think there is any reasonable way of controling them for an individual. Even police has been known to be mute spectators. Knowing all this, Dutt would have probably thought to secure his family first. All this needs to be considered and I think a lenient view taken. Also 13 years is already too long and person changes a lot and no real crime(harm to anyone) was commited.
