Good Verdict....
by Vikas Sethi on Jul 31, 2007 02:01 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

Sanjay is a good human being and is really a likeable and helpful person.

But the decision of 6 yrs in Jail is for possessing illegal arms. The law has taken its course. It is a correct decision if we do not allow his status to colour our judgement.

a celebrity dispensed with justice is a precedent for others not to believe that money power can let them get away with anything. There is a rule of law that has to be obeyed. This is a good example set by the Indian Judiciary. No one is bigger than the law of land.

All his acts of charity are good in their own right, but that cannot be the basis of giving probation to him. It may have had an effect of Sympathy whereby his sentence may have been reduced from a maximum of 10 yrs to 6 yrs.

Besides, all those Muslims who have been shouting hoarse and wrongly alleging that only Muslims in India are being targeted now need to eat humble pie.

I would also congratulate Judge Kode for being brave and strong person in such a high profile case and follow the case with patience, perseverance and high integrity.

Some says that justice is delayed in this case but he has to go thru thousands of pages of documents, thousands of oral evidences and thousands of statements. He must have received death threats and he must have exposed to high pressure situations.

Even politicians of high level might have been involved. But this Judge of mother India has not given into the pressure and threats situation. Some says that he attained the courts even when his mother died.

Bravo, because of such men India is poised to become great nation.

He started charity only as a damage control exercise. We can only say he is a good actor on the screen. There is no way for common people to know how good/bad a person. As far as law is concerned, there was no reason to show sympathy. In fact, it would have negative impact. This court has already given harsh punishments to other criminals involved. So, if the court had given soft punishment to Sanjay Datt, it would have been considered as his political influence.
