Renuka Chaudhary Union Minister of women and child development in defence of her senior cabinet Minister Arjun Singh says:
"It is wrong to involve him. I object to this exploitation of the law. It is wrong to misuse the law. The law is for those who need it, adding that people do misuse the Anti-Dowry Act".
The Supreme Court of India has also ruled that, "the law has several loop-holes and is misused; calling the law "Legal Terrorism"
The statics, so for available show that 98% accused in dowry cases registered under this law have been acquit-ed and only 2% cases have been found genuine after trial.
Therefore there should be strict draconian law for misuse of the Anti-Dowry Act to match; so that the law is availed of by only those who really need it.
Keep 498A IPC, Keep Dowry Act, Keep even the DV Act. But do keep provisions in the laws itself for strict penalties for perjury and malice. Ninety Five per cent of all the cases presently in courts will be closed.
