Well, Mr G, it's a novel thought from you but when the President too is being elected by the common people lot of unnecessary elements get into the fray and try to influence the common public and it would not be any diffeerent from electing an MLA, MP or Councillor. Secondly, the amount of expenditure that would go into such an exercise can better be used something better in this country.

I dont know whether u understand the politics. we are british inspired democracy where the prime minister is the most powerful. President ( Like the queen) is more like a check and ornament on the powerful prime minister. What we should think is that we should elect Kalam as prime minister. not electing as a president. Why dont any one get the idea of electing him as a prime minister...... Lets start the movement for Kalam as a prime minister not a president

Kalam is too old to become to the PM of India. Let him enjoy his retirement age, and not bother him too much.

Good thought G. But we dont have a presidential democracy in India. For your suggestion to come to reality the very basic core of our constitution/governance would have to change from parliamentary democracy. Doesnt seem very likely, does it?
