During the partition majority of educated and well to do Muslims from all parts of the Country, except the South left for Pakistan for greener pasteur, leaving a vacuum amongst the Muslims of the Independent India. Almost all Muslim Officers and soldiers of the British Indian Army also joined the Pakistan army. Therefore, it is natural to have less number of Muslims in Indian Army and other Government services, barring Kerala, TN, Karnataka. Further economically weaker Muslims send their children to Muslim schools and not to Government schools. Here also they do not get competitive education. So it is natural to find less number of Muslims in All India Services/State Services/Defence establishment. Indeed all State Govts and GOI have been doing their best to uplift the Muslim community. In India the community is also growing faster than the other religious communities. Today Muslims account for 15% of total population of India as against only 9% just after partition. In contrast, the Hindus, who numbered 8% of Pak's population just after partition, account for ONLY ONE PERCENT today in Pakistan. The story on the plight of Hindus in B'desh is no better. The point is that the Muslims of India must appreciate the efforts/ gesture of the Govt of India and the majority community and try to assimilate themselves with Indian main stream, giving up intolerance attitude and violence. Surely they can contribute more in a positive manner to build a strong democratic India. JAI HIND
