Regarding Ms. Pratibha Patil%u2019s election as President: Shiv Sena is so shortsighted they cannot see beyond their noses. I might be able to appreciate regionalism to some extent, but not at the expense of the entire country's well being. This is sheer stupidity. Prof. Kalam looks eccentric, is knowledgeable and has presence. Probably was the only Indian president to have captured the interests of journalists world wide. Appearances are not all but in today's exceedingly shallow and superficial world, they do help.

On this topic, any sane Indian would have the same opinion as you, may be except for the regionalist South(y)s. It's our misfortune to have this lady being chosen. IF Sonia to lure folks of Maharashtra wanted to elect a Marathi lady, there are quite a few other capable ladies.
For that matter, anyone who could be the probable successor to Dr. Kalam would have got compared to him & taunted adversely. But she' just too much!
