Whatever anyone may say now, the writing is clearly on the wall. We are having our first lady president. She may not be a great or distinctive person, but she is a lady without a stigma. We have had many rubber stamp presidents in the past, so this would be nothing new.
What's new is the almost vociferous clamour, especially among urban youth, for an eminent personality to chair these honourable institutions.
Politics is the last refuge of the scoundrels, and repeated incidents in the past has only helped in sealing this opinion. The behaviour of MPs in parliament, as shown live on tv, does not differ from the mohalla hoodlums. What they would choose is a foregone conclusion. The pathetic situation in the politics of the country was manifest when no eminent personality was fielded for presidentship. It matters little when the choice is between the devil and the deep sea.
No matter what one may say, the situation will not change unless wrong people are stopped from representing us. To get a good president and a good government, good people need to be chosen. But, even in these times, is that a possibility?
