Why is there so much hue and cry about appointing a Muslim for a ceremonial post? What difference does the VP make to the country? India is one of the very few places in the world where Muslims do not come out against the West shouting slogans at the drop of a hat and that is because our people are basically tolerant. We have such a large Muslim population in the country then why doesn't anything like the Lal Masjid thing happen? It shows the moderation in the Muslim community of the country. A President or a VP being from the Muslim community will go a long way in giving a signal to the vast majority of minorities in the country that they should all aspire to be a Kalam or a Hamid Ansari rather than a Laden or an Afzal..I believe its an excellent decision

Thats the way people should be thinking. Then India will prosper more. Civilised people never can see people by religion. they only look at the quality of that individual.
Most of the posts here blame congress for choosing a muslim for higher post.
But who chose Abdul Kalam for president?.. or do they think kalam is the onyl good muslim in India?
After all whats wrong in chosing a muslim for VP?..All these hate postings are from uncivilised BJP coolies only. Educated people cant see things by religion. Only BJP encourages to do that..
Please identify the fake patriotism of BJPs.
If muslims joined the world protesting over the cartoon thats not more empharissing than saffron parties attacking StarTV office for silly reasons as we all know..

Well George! Those who wanted to go to Pakistan, they left, and thats history. And those who loved this nation are here and still love India. We all haven;t forgotten the communal riots of Gujarat, triggered by Modi (Is he a Muslim?). We have not forgotten Babri Demolition (Were they all Muslims?). and let me ask you one thing, wat will u do if any media publishes cartoons depicting Lord Ram or Lord Krishna as terrorists?
What i want to tell is stop blaming people belonging to a certain community for all the wrong happening around the world and try to figure out the hidden reasons.

mohammed, agreed that u haven'r forgotten gujrat and babri. We as a majority haven't forgotten godhra and Kashir also. Needless to tell you the meaning of majority and what power it has. I am not blaming the whole community but the problem is when hindus are butchered, no one from your community comes out and speaks against them, infact are you aware that in hyderabad, there were celebrations after hindus were burned in Godhra. so GET your facts right and then write..Good luck
