In India, during voting, when security personnels insist to check the identity of veiled women (women in burqa ) then the mullah become furious and cry that this will not be tolerated. And now where are these mullah of India? Why dont they condemn it? Is it tolerable in Pakistan?
Congress and Election Commission, are you taking notes of it?

So that our lives start to get governed by those idiotic priests and mutts from matths ? NO thank you. All religious leaders are bad. Thanks to Nehru - we still have some semblance of sanity in India else we would be a large version of Nepal.

Ankita - Even with those blunders - the positives outweigh the negatives. Think about them .
To answer your question, the biggest achievement for Nehru was closing the economy for foreiners and allow local businesses to flourish. If it was not for him, we would be rules by Coca-Cola or another East-India company. But I must agree that Nehru was not as aggressive like LBS. Unfortunately for India, LBS was killed (I think Russians killed him on Indira's behest).
Somebody said he was not a stateman. I wonder from which history book he got that information. He was one of the finest statesman.
We keep blaming Nehru but just about this. We had been ruled for 1000 years, it is 1947, during Partition thousands of Hindus/Muslims died. The first biggest task for him was to establish communal harmony. Which I think he did pretty well. Then he had a big challenge from different princely states so his Home-Minister SBBP used tactics to get all of them to surrender to Indian confederate. Then to keep things simple, he created states on the basis of languages. You may argue that it was a bad decision but we may never know how it would have turned out if it was purely geographical or some other way of partitioning. Give me break, these guys (our first governement) had no experience of governing but they did as much as they could with what ever little they had. Could they have done better, probably yes. But this is what we know now because we live in the information age but how much information they had. Literally, they started from nothing and have brought India to

Nehru was big idiot no statesman. propaganda machinery of congress made him statesman. When china took over tibet, and later when india was defeated in 1962, discussing this topics in parliament, nehru had said that there is no need for land where a blade of grass does not grow. Now china is considering building dam on brahmaputra and diverting it to northern china(do google if you want to know more) , if it does so entire north east will be at mercy of china. I think lohiaji was right when he had said in reply tto nehru that did it mean people could spit wher ther was no hair i.e. his bald plate. nehru was misfortune of this country. From kashmir to Tibet-china all major threat are his legacy
