MISMANAGEMENT
by Bimal Bhatia on Jul 03, 2007 10:37 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

There was a time when the mumbaikars used to look forward to rains. But now rains of an hour become headlines, and frankly the News Channels act in the most irresponsible manner by creating fear in the minds of people. Its nothing by Nonsense 24 X 7.

Problem in Mumbai has worsened because of the Mismanagement and absolutely Zero Planning of the City. The BMC / MMRDA / Politicians are all busy filling in their coffers. Out of 100 sanctioned for a work, 70 is taken in by these people and the work done is of 30, so but naturally it will be a ahabby work. Development is being done without proper care or study about the overall effect of the same. The builders' lobby has the ministers in their pockets.

Its high time Mumbai has one independent agency which can look after the Planning / Infrastucture of this City rather than so many different organizations who have mastered the Blame Game.

You can't do much planning when most of the country's resources are poured into a few cities like Mumbai, Kolkatta, Hyd, Chennai etc., while the rest of the country is starved of funds.

This will induce a MASSIVE influx of folks into these cities, and quite obviously, the infrastructure isin't able to cope.

Having lived in Mumbai in the past for 3 yrs., I can clearly see the city can't realistically hold more than 500,000 people.

A more equitable distribution of resources between the cities & rural areas is LONG overdue. This will perhaps stop folks from flocking to cities by the horde, thereby putting a HUGE strain on local infra.

Oh but alas, I must be an illetrate SOcialist...
