On Sept. 11 ,2001, the world watched in dismay as the Twin Towers crumbled down. Soon, news broadcasters charged Islamic fundamentalists as being responsible for the terrorist attacks in New York City. This destructive image of Islam quickly swept across the world. Many questioned, how does Islam promote such an attack? The truth is, it doesn't. Islam is a religion of peace and does not condone the killing of innocent people.
In fact, "Islam" is understood to mean "submission to the will of God," and is derived from a root word that means "peace." The term "Islamic fundamentalist" is often misused. To maintain the fundamental beliefs of Islam is quite the opposite of terrorism.
One of the most misinterpreted words in the western world is jihad, an Arabic word that means struggle. The word comes from the root word jahada, which means to strive for a better way of life. Other meanings are endeavor, strain, exertion, effort, diligence, fighting to defend one's life, land and religion. The prophet Muhammad(peace be upon him) said in a tradition that the best jihad for one to perform is jihad against his own self and against his own desires. Muslims are peaceful.. and if you respect them they will respect you...Islam and muslims are like any other religion in the world Some of the media outlets do not portray Islam honestly. No body said anything against Islam. But only against those terrorist activities and terrorists, who happened to belong to Islam. 100% of muslims are not terrorists, but 100% of terrorists happened to be muslims. So, what is the inference?
You said "muslims are peaceful... and if you respect them they will respect you...". What disrespect the victims of twin towers showed towards Islam, what disrespect the victims of train passengers in Bombay and in London showed towards Islam.
If someone has misused the Islam religion, that is the very same people, who have taking the innocent lives under the banner of Islam fundamentalism. Such perpetrators are only muslim by name, but not by their religious practices.
Do not blame the media. Try not to force the media to cover such heinous crimes by a handful of coward people who have nothing but hatred.
