I don't understand how rediff can use cheap headlines to misguide the already ignorant Indian public. The USA has been helping India in all fields from research in health, agriculture, science & tech etc;
For your kind information, I will let you know some facts if you are not aware of: In 1959 when Dalai Lama fled to India with the help of the CIA, India did not want to give asylum, so PM Nehru bargained with President Esienhower of US for the Atom bomb tech; but Esienhower promised the next best thing: the US gave India its firs nuclear reactor CIRUS (Canada India Research United States) and moreover 400 Indian scientist were trained in Nuclear Physics at US under that agreement which culminated in the 1974 Pokharan blast.
Don't think India has given asylum to Dalai Lama without getting anything in return.
Do you realize the Northeast India wouldn't have been a part of India during the Chinese invasion in 1962, at that time PM Nehru sent SOS to Russia and the USA, but Russia did not come forward, it was President Kennedy who directed the 7th fleet to the Bay of Bengal and threatened the Chinese with Pershing II Intercontinental ballistic missile, only than did the Chinese troops made ceasefire with the Indian govt.
I would like to point out one more thing, India is always harping and claiming POK but why don't our Indian govt voice out the occupation of the Chinese J&K? (The area under Chinese control is more than the combine area of the state of Meghalaya & Nagaland added together). If this is not double standard than are we chickening out of fear of the Chinese attack again.
Anyway I would like to point out US is the largest provider of aids to the world and even to India upto the 80s.
Don't think US invaded Iraq for control of oil, during the first Gulf war when Saddam invaded Kuwait, it was the US which came forward and liberated Kuwait. At that time Saddam made an offer to the senior Bush (Then US president),that Iraq will provide oil to US at 1/3rd of the International oil price if US didn%u2019t interfere with Iraq's Kuwait invasion, but US liberated Kuwait putting its own soldiers to defend other country. Infact, the US has always scarified its soldiers to defend democracy around the world. It had pumped hundreds of billions of dollars to rebuild Iraq as it had done in case of building South Korea, West Germany, and Israel etc.
Rediff should have highlighted the recent gift by the US navy of USS Trenton (Renamed INS Jalashva) to the Indian Navy, which will become the second largest warship after INS Vikrant...rather than coin stupid title to mislead the already ignorant public. Dr.BJ Borkakoty Dibrugarh.

DR Borkakoty sir, Any country, for that matter will help another country,if its geo-political condition so demends and America is no exception. If Pt Nehru traded assylum of Dalai Lama, he was supposed to do at least one good thing for India, he was the Prime Minister. I have not been able to understand the meaning of your comment. Are you trying to side America? Please understand the American interest in South Asia? Please stop singing his praises. The terrorism in your country is also gift of America. Pakistan, has only one big supporter and that is America. The only biggest well wisher of India's instability is America and has pumped in billions to destablize that nation. But for the support of America, India is capable of totally finishing Pakistan in one week. But with their help Pakistn has been pulling the hair in your nostrils since the last 60 years. Please for the sake of your future generations,be an Indian. Dont sing the praises of America, without knowing the Geo - political pressures. It does not sacrifice its soldiers without a purpose.Every where it goes with a wish to be world police man, gets beaten, returns and plans to beat up the next country. Vietnam Cuba and Korea are live examples of nice thrashing that America got every where. America doesn't get brave by attacking countries like Afghanistan and Iraq, who dont even have the basic defence infrastructure. If it wishes to flex its mussels it should try countries like, China or India and then will it know where does it stand. When Mr. Vajpayee had shown middlle finger to America, what could they do? Please sir, they are not doing any favour to any one, except that they wish to show that they are the only super power which is not correct. Please Mark my words, if you have read the history of Afghanistan, no one has ever been able to rule them, wait for the time, America will go out of Afghanistan as a raped female dictator. If they sell any weapon system to India, Sorry to contradict you, It is weapon market, if we wish to buy, we shall. Please don't forget, We are India. The day they sold that ship to us they celabrated that sale. Which gift are you talking about sir? Please lets be Indians. We don't know where is Dhekliajulie in Assam and we wish to talk about America's forign policy. Please be Indian and talk Indian and purely in Indian context. Sorry for contradicting you sir, but despite living in Canada, I am an Indian. With regards Maj. R K Tah (Retd) BA,PGDBM,AMIBM,FIBM

Respected Sir, Maj R K Tah. I am grateful to you for all that you have mentioned here. I concurr with every point that you have mentioned here in your passage. I really don't understand why some Indians are more patriotic to other nations than towards INDIA. Ironically it happens only with Indians. One fellow(I dare call him a scoundral) says Pakistan burned for 7 days and feels pity for that. One fellow (knowledgeable Idiot) is in all gaa gaa for US. I think it is all due to lack of Education (not schooling) and self respect.

Wow! Well said, sir. Contrary to what the gentleman purports, I firmly believe US showed renewed interest in Gulf only n only for Oil...No more - No Less.
If it is going to pump in millions of dollars to 'rebuild' Iraq, the idea is to make it an additional state of US.
If it went to war with Afghanistan [grabbing 9/11 as an excuse], it was again to further its geo-political interest to gain a good foot-hold against China and also to form a strong East frontier to the Gulf of Middle East and later on [with Porkistan] gain a say in ALL oil supplies to South East Asia and Far East.
We as Indian should not fall in a trap...not for US, not for anyone.
We should instead look to kick Pakistan where it hurts the most, to ensure theres no repeat of their 26/11 misdemeanours anywhere in the world.
Lets take some inspiration from Israel.
If we can be even 20% of them in terms of their no-tolerance policy, with or without US, we can be really powerful locally as well as globally.

Mr. Borkakoty,
Its good that rediff didnt highlight about the USS Trenton, since renamed as INS Jalashwa! The trenton is an old ship and had major quality issues! Which is why, it was decommissioned from the US Navy. Soon after joining the Indian fleet, it killed 3-4 sailors while on a routine exercise off the coast of Goa. Coming back to US, they are known opportunists and believe in give and take! Their concept of friendliness is vague!

It is all about making money. And making fool of developing countries. Countries like US, Russia, China & France have been selling weapons of war to these counties and making profit. Recently, France sold some sub-marines to Pakistan, and to counter that threat India bought anti-submarine "SCORPENE" from France. Dont think that they are freinds to India or to Pakistan.

Biswajyothi: If US is truly a champion of democracy, then it should have started a factory in India to manufacture Warships instead of selling an old decommission warship for a profit.
