Time to think about social welfare and infrastructure
by Raghu on Jan 22, 2007 09:28 PM   Permalink

Yes, India has the knowledge to go forward but what about the basic things like social welfare and public interests. The country should not just think about producing billioners. Most of the people in the country do not know what the future beholds. Cost of living is growing at the rate higher than GDP. What happens to a tax paying person currently 30 years old, when he retires and does not have a pension. What happens if he does not have health insurance???The finance ministry has more visibility on the GDP and tax income rather than people's welfare. What is happening on the infrastructure front. Its only the real estate prices that are booming and the government is just happy to collect a hefty stamp duty on the transactions. There is no regulation or infrastructure facilities provided by the government. What abt our universities. Apart from a few IITs how many universities produce research papers. How much of funds do we allocate on primary education??? Don't blame qualified people who prefer working for a MNC rather than doing research. Reality is in India, doing research does not pay much. Thats why we lose out so many patents(many patents are filed by mnc's though the back ground research is done by some indian)...I think if we can get the basic act first, we sure can be super power at heart and brain....
