Dont point!! ... do
by Raghav Mimani on Jan 22, 2007 01:49 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

Hey Ravi
Well written... great inputs...
It seems so easy to write on from a distance about the streets, people, mannerism etc..(all the stuff that you have seen and picked from canada, US.. or wherever) but tell me what are you doing to make your country a better place. Sitting from a distance and pointing out flaws is very easy... blaming others even easier...the truth is you would not get your hands dirty to clean up your own hose... right!! and by the way... i also stay in dubai and garee that we are on our way... to become a macro economic power and a force to reckon with... but instead of making global statemnts that i want inida to have a larger heart lets get down to the grass root level... and make it happen!!

It is possible to do things for India when you are outside it. If your heart is in the right place, you can help from anywhere.

A lot of Indians do not do much for India even when they are there.

I try and fundraise for education of children, and donate each month for the purpose, but I have found that Indians are less willing to donate to a good cause even when they know that the effort is genuine.

When one stays in India, one is inured to the suffering one sees around oneself on a daily basius, and it becomes harder to break out of the shell.

All Indians who are capable of doing so should stay abroad for a while just to gain a better perspective of what is lacking in India.

And yes, you can contribute from abroad too, why not?

it's because, you see india in a different perspective from abroad. you see things differently. i'm in canada now. all the 3 years i've been here. i've only admired how much of a better place is india. i die to go to india each time and feel sad to come back here. then what am i doing here. well. i'm also earning like any common person. i want the money to start the business i dreamt of and i will surely be starting it in the coming here in my home town.. each time i see india, i only think that how much of a better place it is. a small example i would like to say a small example at this point.. it was last winter, i saw an old man fall down on the road and he started bleeding on the head. he was on the road.. there were lots of people walking by and not even 1 of them even wanted to ask him if he was ok. i waited for 2 mins. it took me that much time to cross the road. i ran to him and asked if he was ok. he wanted help to get up from the road. i helped him and asked if he was ok. he was not able to talk. i tried to call a cab and take him to the clinic. but, he managed to tell me to call 911. poor man wanted to follow the rules. i appreciate it and called 911 and they took over. but, my point is. if he would have died there. still it's not a big deal for anyone. the difference is that i have seen people helping a whole family to reacht the hospital when there was a similar accident in india.

moreover, if u scroll across this whole article, you would see similar replies from hundreds of indians. which ultimately shows how much we care of our country and how united we are. yes, there are thousands of problems in our country. we and our grand parents lived with it for 1000's of years and we are still here. and there'll soon be a time the world will stop complaining about india. it's not far away. i would like to talk more.. but, for now. got to go.. vandemataram
