I dont understand the rational behind getting a technology thats 40 yrs old to people of india, when we claim to be sych with whats going on globally,we have the latest mobile phones, ipods and what not being marketed here.

Politicians learn to have some self respect.

First learn, then buy new
40 years old yes. The rationale? here goes. All of us first learn how to drive a car before buying one. Again, most of us buy a second hand car, gain some years of experience behind the wheel, then go for a new one. Exactly the case with Trenton. The Indian Navy as of today, does not have a specialised ship like the Trenton. Since the ship has come at a throw away price, it's logical to gain expertise on handling the ship, exploiting it and concurrently for the Indain ship yards that take ages to build ships some learn how to go about building such ships. So by the time, the Indian yards build ships and handover the same to the navy, the Indian Navy would be in a position to take over the new ship, dump Trenton and have years of expereince behind it in operating such ships by then.
