As pointed by me in one of my earlier posts (few months ago), there are some problems that the Indian muslims today are stuck with, and no doubt Islam is a great religion, but it urgently needs reforms. The following steps need to be taken (of course by the muslims themselves) for their own betterment: 1) Must accept that there is a problem with the current state (thinking) of Muslims. Must admit that majority of muslims today (even the Indian muslims) have extreme views. 2) Abolish customs like butchering goats at home. 3) Do away with female subjugation practices.
More on this later.
I hope I haven't offended any of the muslim brothers by this. Let me know if you disagree with something.

I agree muslims hae to change...and upper caste hindus have been trying hard to take the society forward. However - a lot needs to be done by Hindus themselves before we start advising muslims to reform themselves- which is best if driven by enlightened community within Muslims themselves. The muslim community is undergoing a huge identity crisis as their is the only civilization apart from Africans who have been left behind in modern education and practices. The Chinese are booming, Hindus are shining in technology , Jews are far ahead and christians anyway had a huge head start. Give them some time and some sanity will prevail in them. Right now they are in a denial stage and will be complete closed to suggestions and will continue to parrot as to how theirs is "the superior way of life"

Anurag, To tide over the identity crisis government has/is/will provide the necessary help like reservations, affirmative action,banking loans etc. etc.

Thanks for expressing your views. I was trying to be pragmatic. It is easier for people to change. Religions sometimes involve such a strong faith of people that it becomes very very difficult to bring about changes. The whole world knows that the majority of muslims today have extreme views. Any one denying that has to be a hypocrite. I think a pragmatic solution would be to identify the key issues that need to be tackled. This has to be done by muslims themselves.

Have you read Quran, do you know what is writen there. I suppose you have not reade it. You are floating with the wind and wave. Whatever media especially westen media is projecting about Islam, you are believing that and even suporting that also.Here, i think that you need some logical thinking. One should not blame anything without a through study of it.Islam never propagated hatred and violence. There are some peolpe who are misusing and misinterpreting islam.Further more, your so called ex-muslim friend, i suppose they never entered islam, if they had known the real islam and its meaning,they would never have converted back to any other religion.As far as greatness is concerned history is the eyewitness, every one knows whos has been great, why Islam that started from a small country spread so far and wide and allumdu-lilah-it is growing . Amen to that.

Dont be fooled and dont fool others. Did you ever read Koran yourself seriously or argueing all this what you learned from some illitereate maulavi from mosque? Before advaising someone else to study Koran why dont you check some of the verses of Koran which only teach and preach hatred and nothing else. Those verses of koran (2:191 9:29, 25:52, 8:12, 66:9, 2:137, 9:05) speak for themself. As muslims like you (not me) BELIEVE they are direct words of Allah, READ OUT truth in those verses. Dont hide behind western or non muslim intelectuals and what those fools say. That is TAQIYA, which means fooling innocents. Please dont fool us and yourself. Read Koran in original, if you are honest believer. Koran says in many words itself that, Prophet in his original preaching and through the word of Allah himself guides and orders believers to kill terrorise and impose Islam at the point of sword. If few western leftists intelectuals or moderate muslim intelectuals are talking of something else or contradictory to Koran thats hypocracy, and following them make you hypocrite. Can you deny these following verses are not in Koran? Do you deny they teach or preach hatred?
