In the olden days we had this non-alignment movement - which was basically a self praising club of tinpot dictators and demogauges - like Tito , Castro , Saddam , Indira Gandhi and the like. Each of these worthies had their favourite propagandist or ideologues - Saddam had Tariq Aziz , Indira had Natwar, sanjay gandhi and so on . These hanger ons formed a corrupt coterie that would interact to ensure mutual benefit to self and their families. They had delusions of third world unity which will protect their powers against democracy. Most of these were of course supported by KGP and many were under their payroll. Post destruction of USSR in mid 80s - this union of thugs was in a disarray. Yugoslavia disintegrated , Castro got old , Indira was assassinated replaced by Rajiv who had no patience for these fools , Keyratta was replaced etc . Saddam still stood strong and he was still able to dole out cash to some of his old supporters like Natwar Singh who tried to get his som close to the regime and Uday. Iraqis were very good in record keeping - they would keep track and make notes of everything they did so that there is an audit trail right upto the big boss and that covered their backside. Bush of course spoilt the party as the invasion left little time to destroy this document and a lot of people accross the world are in trouble. Natwar as they say is f&@&d.

Only thing is the US for decades including Bush dad propped Saddam till they decided that there was no need to take Iraqi oil through Saddam, the take over could be direct and so they invaded Iraq. Others merely in the way were dusted off.
