Why the Cauvery award is flawed

According to Himandhu Thakkar, The Cauvery award fails on the test of science as it does not consider ground water availability in the Cauvery basin area. Mr. Thakkar should know that reach of Science goes much beyond lifting of ground water. Now-a-days technology is available for getting drinking water from the sea. Cost is the only problem. We are happy to note that you have not suggested recovery of water from sea and hence the length of the coastal line also should have been considered while awarding the verdict! If you start questioning the logic, there is no end to it. Why only availability of ground water should be considered? All the states do not produce the same crop. Requirement of water per hectare depends on the crop. Paddy needs more water, sugarcane needs less, floriculture needs still less. One logic for deciding the eligibility of the quantum of water is to consider the total area under cultivation in the respective states and divide in that ratio. Then a question arises. Suppose state no.1 is producing more in less land area by adopting better techniques, why should they be punished for their better productivity? Then a better logic is to divide in the ratio of total agricultural production. It is workable if all the concerned states are producing the same agricultural product. Suppose one state is producing paddy and the other sugarcane. Then what will you do? We can go on arguing like this for another century without any result. Every time an award is given by the tribunal there will be another Mr.Thakkar to question it on his own logic. Let us not fight on the issue publicly. Let Karnataka (or whoever is unhappy with the award of the tribunal ) approach the Supreme court. Whatever is the decision of the Supreme court should be binding on all the parties.

logic? can we expect that from you? it'd be a breath of fresh air. all we've heard so far is emotional rhetoric and falsehoods about tamils being targetted and killed.
