Cauvery runs for about 381 kms in Karnataka & 357 kms in Tamilnadu..Though Karnataka generates the maximum share of water flows through its catchment areas to the cauvery it is Tamilnadu that gets a greater allocation in the tribunal award! Ramakrishna

I think Cauvery belongs to everyone. If you think it belongs to Coorg, Coorg belongs to India so correlation, cauvery belongs to India. So all Indians have equal rights to it.

A river which runs through many states belong to all thosee states - and so it should be shared among all those states without hurting each other. I think this verdict does that to a large extent - becuase Karnataka always played foul when it comes to sharing the water. (If you think Cauvery BELONGS ONLY to Karnataka then, NOT even a DROP of water should come out of the state - even when the monsoon pours down and the whole of Karnataka is under water! Can you do that? That's why it belongs to Tamil Nadu as much as it belongs to Karanataka! Got it?!!) Palanisamy

Karnataka as a state was created just now... Cauvery Basin (including portion in (now) Karnataka and (now) T.N) existed for probably millions of years... You can not divert the water to drought ares in Karnataka which was not served by Cauvery before... Praveen

Could you tell me the source for this claim? Looking at the picture in the "Cauvery coverage" article, it seems like T.N has more than 60% length of river in it...
