One sided take on India
by MICHAEL LAWRENCE on Feb 06, 2007 02:49 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

huh... this article is a very one sided take on India...it is only natural that we ape the West becos they are more succesful than the east... Indian culture has always absorbed different cultures... Indian culture = multi-culture... so we are adding one more culture to many we have already in India...thats the Western culture..

And your point is...

Yes, we KNOW we are adding another culture - western culture - to our culture. The issue is that we are are imbibing the worst of the western culture? There are more Indians that think that drinking wine at lunchtime, going to a pub, having indiscriminate sex, etc., is a sign of progress, than virtues of hard work, discipline, honesty, dedication to family, community service, etc. How pathetic is that!

Hi Vas,

Good job, you have taken the trouble to answer some of the idiots who posted on this site. Simple and plain - people who link up our "backwarness" to our culture and heritage have not understood the cause of the backwardness nor the glory of our culture. To those of you who think that Manusmrithi is the root of our caste evil, I would recommend that you - at the minimum - take the trouble of reading that book once before passing such uneducated remarks. Manusmrithi surely defined the caste structure, but nowhere does it say that the caste is hereditory. It is just an "occupation-based" classification of society which got hi-jacked by vested interests and is now being abused. Poor Manu is being blamed for all this mess.

Vas, you could spend your time better by not heeding the morons who post stupid postings and instead focus on something more useful, that will improve the lot of the people in our country.
