Unfair /unjustice virdict
by mahadeva swamy on Feb 05, 2007 03:31 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

In Bangalore not only Kannadigas are living, almost 30 to 40% is from Tamilnadu. Karnataka is sharing its soil, water and other resources to People from TN. TN wants both benefits here in Karnataka and TN. The virdict should be taken back or else it will lead to real violence and fair justice to be given to Karnataka

Well: Mahadeva Swamy. It is very magnanimous on the part of Kannadigas to support 30 to 40 per cent of Bangalore's population from Tamil Nadu. What is your price for that? The life of an entire state of TN? The Almighty has supported Karnataka with three major rivers -- Kaveri, Krishna, Tungabhadra and many tributaries of these rivers. But fortunately or unfortunately Karnataka is an upper reparian state (URS). The soil content in the URS is bound to be of very very poor quality as compared to the soil content of the delta region. This geographical truth is true for the entire world and not just for Karnataka. The soil content in the delta region is bound to be rich because of the sediments the river carries through its entire course and deposits it at the delta before draining itself into the ocean. The crop yield in the delta is manifold as compared in URS. You have to really pump in your soil with water and fertilizers before it can yield crops profitably. In the process the soil becomes dead over a very short period because of overexposure to chemical manure. However in the delta region the contrary is true. Of course I have travelled through your Mandya district where it is green all around. But this greenery is only soil deep which is sustained by generous Kaveri. You haven't perhaps read about crop yield in the delta region of kaveri which fortunately or unfortunately falls in Tamil Nadu. Actually the chest beating of "support" and "we will teach a lesson to these Tamil guys" and "we will teach a lesson to the kannada guys" is all very well for the politicians who survive on the emotional eruption of their respective people. But the educated ones should try to bring about a change in the mindset of rulers of the URS. I am sure if one can agree upon "rice for water" agreement with TN, it would be beneficial to both the parties. The fertile fields of TN which lie dried up due to stifling of Kaveri in the URS can have three crops in a year -- out of which yield one can be exclusively for Karnataka. Otherwise at least one should have the courage to abide by the verdict given by a third party -- the Supreme Court, Central Water Tribunal. If not one might think of suitably amending the Constitution so that TN and Karnataka is allowed to raise their respective armies and the issue could be settled on the battlefield. Burning of buses from TN, smashing of Cinema theatres in the Cantonment area, etc. only speak volumes of the cowardice on the part of those indulging in such acts. Tamil Nadu has only one major river and that is Kaveri. Abundant as you are with river resource if you would like to stifle our only source of water for irrigation, then you would be pushing TN into a desperate corner. You know desperate situations begets desperate solutions and when it comes to violence I think the Tamils can be second to none! Sagacity should give way to chauvinism. And Mahadeva Swamy, I know Kannadigas are God-fearing people. Nature is meant for sustaining humanity around the course of a waterbody. (Here it is Kaveri). If it had been the Almighty's design that Kaveri is exclusively for Kannadigas then it would have ended up in a lake somewhere within the boundary of Karnataka and would not have flown for more than half its length into Tamil Nadu. What nature did not mean to do, if you think you can do so by ending Kaveri's flow within the many dams you build across the river and its tributaries in your Kannada territory then nature has got its own way of righting a wrong. Anything is a possibility when crores of people living in Tamil territory raise up their arms in prayer to the Almighty to mitigate the injustice done to them by those of the URS. Good luck!

That sounds like a heart felt comment!!

Taking cues from your comments, TN has 3 crops because of the fertility of the delta that cauvery creates even in the arid season!

So, what justifies 419 tmcft of water? Why not let the karnataka farmers use more water when they are struggling to get anyway close to the second crop?

Yes, well said Mahadeva, the TN people is sharing resources and paying back their money in the form of tax to the karnataka. They are working for karnataka and because of TN people you are making bucks. You are living in the TN peoples potential because of your lack in knowledge and potential skills.
