Stop electricity to Karnataka
by kumar on Feb 05, 2007 01:25 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

The water sharing scheme was setup for a reason. All parties need to live up to this. Karnataka is the one which has never lived up to this so they need to change.

Few years back, there were calls to stop providing electricity to Karnataka from Tamil Nadu. Luckily, the politicians in TN were more mature than that to stop electricity. Karnataka should think about the consequence of stopping resources like water unless someone retaliates with electricity.

These southern states only think about themselves and there lies the problem.

Kumar, I think you are mature enough to read the article which says how much Tamil Nadu wants and how much it thinks Karnataka should have. Do you think itz fair ? Also you say that Karnataka never lived up to the formula. If you know the history, Karnataka government has lived upto this even during distress time when the state faced draught. The government has secretly given the alloted tmc of water against itz farmers wishes. Don't you think to be fair, there should be a distress formula during the time of draught. Shouldn't both the states share the distress during this bad situation. Do you know that Tamil Nadu yields 3 crops in a year whereas Karnataka yields 2 crops a year. Please look at the ground realities instead of being emotional or listening to opportunist politicians in both the states. Also you mentioned about electricity, do you know that Karnataka pays for electricity whereas water is free to both the states. Instead of being narrow minded on both the sides, we people should look at the ground realities.

Drive all the mega mega millions of Tamils living in Bangalore, Mysore and even the most remotest of remote villages in Karnataka, back home, and then give them the water.
These greedy Tamils want every Tamil of working age to work and thrive in Karnataka, squeeze the local resource, as well has have the cake and send it home too. 565 TMC and 175 TMC?!! Where did they pull that number from.

Seenu,

This is exactly what we don't need in India. We don't need ethnic cleansing. We are all Indians, thats what matters. There are lots of Kannadigas living TN as well as other states, similar to Tamilians. Don't let inter-state tension lead to ethnic tension because thats what Pakistan and such countries would want.

the lack of water is an opportunity cost and stop electricity and see the cost.

Karnataka (as with all Southern States) only think about themselves. The drought in TN is much worse than in Karnataka. The water sharing formulae is fair. Even Vajpayee came up with a great formulae but Karnataka didnt accept it.

Karnataka has always been anti-Tamil. I suspect thats largely because of the history of Tamils which is older and prestigeous in general. Kannadas have always had inferior complex and their treatment of Tamilians in Bangalore in general is shocking.

I am not a Tamilian or South Indian but tired of all these Southern States fighting over each other. If Karnataka could have it their way, they won't give up any water.

Looking at your comments, Mr. Kumar, it looks like you know more about tamilians and their culture than the people of tamil nadu themselves... also you say drought in tamil nadu is much worse... so being a non-south Indian you know a lot about Tamil Nadu.. I appreciate your interest in tamil nadu... though your hometown might have lot of itz own problems(if you are truly not from tamil nadu... look at my 2 points which is not generated of my own, but globally know and you can check with any government or any media news papers..

1) 562 tmc to Tamil Nadu versus 175 tmc to Tamil Nadu(source.. this article itself)
2) 3 crops per year by tamil nadu versus 2 crops by karnataka

if itz false i would accept whatever you say(check about the truth of these points anywhere)..... after finding these 2 facts are true, if you still think itz unfair.. then go to school and educate yourself and come out of narrow mindedness

Older and prestigious? Dude, do you think neighbors living together for thousands of years would suddenly one day decide that one person speaks the "inferior" language and the other one retains the "superior" culture? Cut your superiority complex, dude. Try to think how these different languages could have evolved, even within people living within a mile of each other.

Mr Kumar,

If you are not from either of the states as you claim, then it would be prudent for you to keep your opinion with yourself and learn to mind your business. And when you write a comment, use proper terms. People of karnataka are referred to as Kannadiga and not "Kannadas".

Mr Rao,

This is an india wide problem because this can lead to animosity between states. Southern States are especially miopic so the dangers are even greater.
