Well, in India why do we "agree" or "disagree" to "People" why dont we agree/disagree on policys ??
If Thackeray goes against south indians/north indians/non-maharashtrians it IS WRONG!!
But then Creating Jobs for the natives IS RIGHT!!
You cannot create jobs by hating people and divding them, only create vote banks.
If Kalam decides to spare a terrorist!! it IS WRONG!!!
If Gandhiji's "Non Cooperation Movement" helped weaken the British Rule economically it IS RIGHT!! If he signed a petition to partition the country it is "WRONG"!!
I think we should try and be more abstract instead of being blind followers... otherwise our country will always be ruled by people who exploit our biggest fears... The minorities fear the majorities and vice versa. Advocates of Regional languages fear that having a national language different from their mother-tongue will destroy their mother tongue. Advocates of National language fear that not teaching national langugage in schools will divide the country into pieces. But cant we learn this from history that what language you speak at home , what religion you follow at home and what dress you wear at home is your choice as an individual. Dont make it a community. There is only 1 community - Indian

The fact that we agreed to the Indian Union means that the country will not divide. We dont need a national language to prevent the country from dividing. It was our choice to join the union. But we joined in the belief that the union will have a place in the sun for all of us without discriminating us based on our culture and language. Having Hindi as sole the official language will decimate telugu and our culture

hey southie, Why only Hindi ? It should be true with English also. But you double standard jerks will not do that. And one more thing, you did not decide to join union. India's first home minister sent army to capture Hyderabad. You know why, because you morons do not understand a word called co-existence. It's a 21st century, come out of your regional shell or atleast just wake up.

SteeveB, you probably dont know history well... Hyderabad was not all of Andhra. And, on top of that, it was just the stupid nawab who wanted to be an independent nation, not the regular hyderabadi. Patel sent troops to oust the nawab, not to force the Hyderabadis into submission. We were already a part of India at heart.
As for Hindi, we have nothing against it. Visit Hyderabad to understand the meaning of co-existence. We dont raise slogans to kick out non-hyderabadis, like some other cities seem to be doing these days. We appreciate knowledge, and we seek it. That has always been our culture. Dont shoot off your mouth just because you have been given one.

SteeveB is absolutely correct. These South Indians are not national minded. They want us to learn their language and inferior culture. We live in a democracy and the single majority spoken language is HINDI. They should learn up or ship out.
When you go overseas, you see all the Telugus hanging out together like communal minded people. its even hard to great them. Even if they know Hindi, they only speak Telugu infront of you. THey have no concept of India.

Read comments of the guy named "southie". He is telugu. His comments prove you wrong. Steve and other non-south indians are only responding to comments of southie and many others like him. It's easy to say politically correct things to us but why don't you say this to your narrow minded telugu friends here.

Learning English is OK for Southie losers like him cause they prefer being slaves of white and black people over working with indian people hand in hand.

There are many replies here on Hindi, regional language and English etc. We need to be practical- we need Hindi and regional language for business At the end of the day we need to feed one billion people, so we need 3 billion meals everyday. Every language is important in its context. We cannot improve Telugu by condemning Hindi or improve Hindi by condemning English. If learning Urdu, Arabic (which are languages with very rich culture) or Chinese can get us ahead in the middle-east, bag their contracts and improve the living conditions of masses in India, then why not learn those languages.
Note that whether you want to call Hindi a national language or not, the fact remains that it is the highest spoken language in India and in most parts of India. So Hindi is the national language by default!

yeah, keep learning your former master's languag, you "southie". There are many non-hindi indian languages and cultures outside south india. People there don't think the way hateful and narrow-minded people like you think. Keep learning your former master's language - English, you narrow-minded people.

Hi Southie you said "Having Hindi as sole the official language will decimate telugu and our culture" Why do you think it will decimate telugu language and culture. For example in Mumbai in schools we have English as the first language, Hindi as the second language and Marathi as the third language. I speak Konkani at home, I speak Marathi with my childhood friends, I speak Hindi when I go to the market or sitting in an autorickshaw, I speak English in Office. Neither has it "decimated" my mothertongue, nor has it removed my Indian culture from me. When working in Bangalore , I tried learning the Kannada language. My room mate was Telugu , however born and bought up in Chennai, so I learnt a little bit of Telugu and Tamil from him. However we used to communicate mostly in Hindi at home. It is important to Bond as country men. Hindi is understood by most states in India. In my friends , sometimes I would get into an argument with people who would say "I Hate that language" , I heard Kannadigas say that about Tamil, Tamilians say that about Hindi, Telugu people say that about Kannada.. sometimes I ask myself..Whats Happening to us man!!! Are we going back to being different kingdoms again ?? do we still need the British to bond us ??

Mr. Panemangalore
the fact that you thought it was important to reply back to my message but not to the message of those who believe South Indians should be kicked out of Mumbai shows your nationalistic feeling. Of course, saying Hindi is not our national language warrants a reply but saying that south Indians dont belong to mumbai and should be kicked out of the city is OKAY. you are, of course, the great indian nationalist hope.

Hi Southie ( UttarPradesh impersonater :D ) I have been born and bought up in Mumbai/Maharashtra/India. If someone says I dont belong there will it mean I really dont belong there? People who start this issue are usually political . People who support these people are insecure of their jobs they are insecure of their livlyhood being snatched by immigrants. This is true anywhere be it Mumbai-Maharashtra or Bangalore-Karnataka or recently a spate of cases happened in Assam. The people are not your enemy , the inscurity is. If there were enough jobs all over India, would people migrate from their native villages to the Urban cities ??? Behind every problem is an insecurity...and inside every man is a devil who we will tell us that we are in danger from the guy living next door. kill him before he kills us. The point is, are you strong enough to say that I am my country... ?
