I never knew voting in the Municipal elections could be so hilarious. After moving to Pune relevant forms were duly submitted to the authorities so that my wife, daughter and I could exercise our franchise. Imagine our consternation on the contents of the slips when each of the contesting parties%u2019 representatives handed over the slips. The great day arrived and the three of us landed up at the polling centre. As per one slip I was to vote in Kholi No.5 whereas as per one slip I was to cast my vote in Kholi No.4. I enquired loudly (so that everyone could hear) from the presiding officer if he could clarify:- 1. Whether sex change operations were being done by the Election Commission Offices since my sex had changed as also my daughter%u2019s. 2. How I had become my father%u2019s father as per the election rolls in Maharashtra norms. 3. How my address had changed in the election rolls.
The entire group of voters, the polling officials, the police personnel and the presiding officer were in peals of laughter especially for item 2 above.
But, seriously, someone has fallen down on the job if this is the quality of the rolls and needs to be investigated. This would further lead to bogus voting also.
