yes, i agree there are darker sides of our culture also (in hindus as well as muslims). u cant say whether wotever happened in those times was a part manipulated texts by the brahmins by claiming it as a part of the religion for the sake of power. but fortunately hinduism is lucky to have many great social reformers like raja ram mohan roy, ishwarchandra vidyasagar, dayanand sarawati, Swami Vivekananda, etc who fought againt these systems and people also accepted the change. these reforms are still taking place even though im not saying that today's society is totally clean. however its sad that muslims r still left backward becoz there has not been any prominent social reformer and the people r not ready to accept anybody and r too much under influence of mullahs and the sheriyat. they need strong and influencial social reformers with the support of ordinary moderate muslims to fight the extremists and the problem of terrorism. education can only solve the problem.

Dear Ali, every custom in a religion comes out of a social situation. Suttee came because of muslim invasions over hindus.the women were raped and used as sex slaves.so it was felt that the women is no longer safe when her husband died.Now that is irrilavant in context to present situation.
Sacrifises were common in every religion during prehistoric days.why are goats on eed killed savagly for hours when being bled to death.
These things existed on individual bases.hinduism doesnot preach them.those people are rogues i accept. What do you call a religion which preaches you to marry 5 women just to gratify your sexual desire.Probably most of the muslims in our country are born to those helpless hindu women who were raped by those muslim invaders. The hindu religion preaches that sex is natural phenomenon.it is very mature and not priitive.where women are treated like pleasure articles canot go to mosque.cannot come out of house,cannot work,canot study. Are you born to vergin mary.ask your mother.
