1. That's not true. Why did Congress loose recent assembly elections in other parts of India? Since Ayodhya issue, BJP never managed to form govt in UP with simple majority (although managed with some Mayawati support). The truth is because Ayodhya issue, their march to Delhi was marginalised untill 1999 when finally some regional friends co-operated with BJP only because BJP compromised on Ayodhya issue and for those regional parties Congress was the main rival not BJP. BJP is only hovering between 120 and 160 on its own. Not great differnece as such! The vote share remained same in nearly all elections. So, it is wrong to say that BJP ruled because of Ayodhya. 2. Ayodhya shining campaign was originally launched long before elections to create a corporate image of India abroad. BJP used it in elections. Even in last election, wherever there were straight fights with cong (Guj/Mah/MP/Raj) BJP had an upper hand! BJP lost where it depended on its allies like TN/Andhra/Bihar. The vote share was infact slightly more than previous election. So, they clearly lost because of their friends and a bit of over confidence rather than any specific issue. 3. Let's see what happens in Gujrat. Exit polls had projected similar figures in previous Gujrat polls but Modi won 2/3 seats. If he loses, its more likely to be because of internal fighting and clever cast politics played by Congress. 4. Loosing an election is not end of politics! Even Congress lost several elections recently!
