I want to know why some persons like Pragya nopany consider hydro electricity as a demon. I think it is the cheapest and if it is limited to medium and small scale dimensions it can be very eco friendly too. Some innovations must be made so that even small and medium hydro electric works can be made more efficient so that problems of submergence, displacement of people etc. are kept to the minimum. I would like people more knowledgeable in this sphere to enlighten me about the possibilities and pitfalls.

well, she's an environmentalist. As for your question, the main problem with Hydro electric plants is its meagre output. the investment you make doesnot justify the amount of power output from it. Moreover, the functioning is based on a lot of variables that sometimes are not reliable themselves. Thats why most of India's power comes form the thermal powerplants instead of the hydro electric powerplants. you could say that building a hydro electric project purely for the electricity is a thing of the past now.
