i do not think the term Mochi itself is derogatory.

it means someone making shoes, or chappals and there is nothing derogatory about the word.

i would take that just like a darji, or a lohar, or a suthar..
a person in a particular trade, just an identification..

but, using that as a higher or a lower caste would be insulting.

Hey.. now onwards kindly call all Indian Cobbler as Shoe Reformer or Designer,, else they will sue us
