Not true in the case of all castes
by MOHAN PYARE on Dec 01, 2007 05:10 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

Mahatekar says "According to our Constitution,a person cannot be referred to in terms of his caste. And if you do so you are insulting him." In Kerala, Nair, Menon, Panicker, Namboothiripad etc. are different caste names.Nobody objects when they are called by these names. First Chief minister of Kerala was EMS Namboothiripad. Namboothiripad is his caste name. Similarly, the Bhattacharya in the name of WB Chief minister is his caste name. What Mahatekar says may be correct only in the case of dalits.

You are one person, who cannot be sensitive to people's caste. there is a division in society and there exists upper castes and lower castes. I have not seen, if people were offended when they are called by upper caste names. It happens only in case of dalits because, they want equality after many years of exploitation by the so called upper castes. If you are calling them by the caste name, it means you are telling them on their face, you are inequal than me and I am rich, arrogant, upper caste person with pride in my caste name.. that proves that.. you want to keep discriminating people. Can't understand????....travel anbroad, foreigners don't know castes.. they will call every one as brown people or dark people.. then u will know what the discrimination is...

If so!!! remove/take out the caste name from the constitution which the respected caste people does not want to be with that caste. Why dont Indians try to make a single caste as Hindu or Indian??? This no one will accept because they need the caste for reservation and votes. Then why the hell you are producing the caste certificate when you do not like some one to call with that caste?? First you stop saying or producing the caste name bye yourself then expect from others.

Who said, bhattacharya is caste name? That is only a title. Bhattacharyas could be brahmins.

Birth-based Caste system is 3000 years old. British did not create it. In fact, after the British came it started weakening.

Without the British Rule the conditions would have been worse.
