victory of good over evil
by Chatrapathy on Aug 31, 2007 06:27 PM   Permalink

When I was barely four years old, my father told me the story of Ramayan. The life and story of Lord Sri Rama, an embodiment of virtue and an epitome of righteousness. This highly chivalrous personality inspired me and would continue to inspire me for the rest of my life.

We never know if Lord Sri Rama ever walked on the face of this planet or whether Ramayana is just a figment of imagination of a poet, but the characters in Ramayana have influenced the Indian culture for generations. Indian women still believe in chastity, we still consider it a moral obligation to respect and obey our parents. An elder brother is a always a fatherly figure for us and we still follow the doctrine of single spouse. These traits of Indian society are by and large incorporated into our system by the influence of characters in Ramayana.

Hinduism is probabaly the only faith which attributes divinity to human biengs. As per advaita, everything is a devine manifestation of God and any one can attain divinity by waking up the godliness in him. Lord Sriram Lived this philosophy.

He never attributed divinity to himself, he was not a self proclaimed messiah of God, instead he called himself a simple human bieng(Nimmitta Matra). It hurts me to know that some people are morbidly bent upon destroying a structure which is supposedly built by him.
