With out distrubing the ramasethu also canal can be dug as suggested by the committe. The depth of the canal would be 60 feet, whish is not sufficient for abig ship to go through it. majority of the ships would be big in future , so many wont be going through the canal. the speed of the ship aslo decreases because of the constraints of depth & width. And for a ship to go through the canal a pilot ship is required and again u need to pay for the pilot ships , in idia there is shortage of pilot ships whish will delay the time of travel. the canal should be maintained throught the year like silt removing , the maintance cost is very high talking all this into consideration it is not economically beneficial. The ram sethu aslo saved Kerala from Sunami on east. It can happen vice versa also. all the ships going through the smalll would dump all the oil and spoil the ecology. Yes. A.Ramasamy Mudaliar committe has given 6 channels to build SSCP. In that 5 channels do no cut Rama Sethu. The current channel is the only channel that cuts Rama Sethu. Even Ramasamy Mudaliar had this channel as least preferred channel.
